Professor Jeff S. Kuehny from the Lousiana State University, a distinguished person in the field of American horticulture, visited Arboretum Mlyňany on Thursday 18 July 2019 during his stay in Central Europe. Dr. Lucia Gabríny, Director of the AgroBioTech Research Centre of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, and Dr. Jaroslav Michalko from the Arboretum Mlyňany were pleased to accompany him during the visit. The visit consisted of introductory talks followed by a tour of the Arboretum park. The Arboretum‘s management team, Dr. Jana Konôpková, Dr. Peter Hoťka and Dr. Peter Ferus, gave a brief history of the site. They also informed on public outreach and engagement activities performed, as well as on principal goals of the research programme of the workplace of the Arboretum Mlyňany, as a part of the Institute of Forest Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Professor Kuehny is currently Director of the Lousiana State University AgCenter Botanic Gardens. Thus, he could share with the hosts his experiences, ambitions and also difficulties encountered while trying to make the university botanic garden more attractive for public. During the discussion, Professor Kuehny and representantives of the Arboretum shared their ideas about potential collaboration. Professor Kuehny greatly admired the oldest wood species in the park. The new knowledge gained will serve him as inspiration.
